Marshall Collins, age
72 of Somerset, KY departed this life on Thursday, March
31, 2011 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.
He was born on June
10, 1938 in Manchester, KY to the late Eli and Mae Bowling
Collins. He was a retired strip mining foreman for Ikerd
Bandy Coal Company. Mr. Collins was a 25 year member of
the Burnside Masonic Lodge and a Master Mason. He was a
member of the East Somerset Baptist Church, having served
as a greeter and a member of the Golden Years at the
church. Mr. Collins loved gardening, turkey hunting, and
spending time with his family. He enjoyed the simplicity
of life.
Mr. Collins is
survived by three daughters, Martina (and Darvin) Davis of
Somerset, KY, Marcia (and Clinton) Miller of Bronston, KY,
and Joyce Collins (and fiancé, Matt Lee) of Bronston, KY;
five grandchildren, Sgt. 1st Class Dustin (and
Sheli) Davis, Tiffanie (and Jason) Stringer, Ashley
Daniels, Jenah Carr, and Jacob Lee; four great
grandchildren, Kaeden Stringer, Matti Davis, Skylar
Stringer, and Paisley Belle Stringer; six brothers,
Charlie (and Loretta ) Collins of Manchester, KY, A.C.
(and Sally) Collins of London, KY, Eli (and Fran) Collins
Jr. of Manchester, KY, Virgil Glen (and Paula) Collins of
Richmond, KY, J.M. (and Teresa) Collins of Manchester, KY,
and Bobby (and Bernice) Collins of Manchester, KY; five
sisters, Ruby Michaels of Hamilton, OH, Judy (and Frank)
Foreman of Ohio, Connie (and Chuck) Barnard of Manchester,
KY, Loretta (and Bobby Joe) Henson of Manchester, KY, and
Juanita (and Franis) Eagle of Manchester, KY; a
sister-in-law, Phyllis Collins; and a special friend,
James VanHook, “His Little Buddy”.
Along with his
parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Janice
Gross Collins, whom he married on December 24, 1960 in
Manchester, KY; two brothers, Henry Collins and Roper
Collins; a sister, Ally Collins; and a brother-in-law,
Raymond Michaels.
Visitation for Mr.
Collins will be Saturday, April 2nd at 5:00 pm
at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home, 1046 West Highway 80,
Somerset.
Funeral service will
be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, April 3rd at the
Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Darvie
Fenison and Bro. Robert Gross officiating. Interment will
be in Lakeside Memorial Gardens.
