Mary Jo Whitaker, age 74 of Dykes community, departed this life on Friday, December 16, 2011 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

She was born on February 25, 1937 to the late Fred D. and Edna Silvers Dykes. She was homemaker and a member of “The Church of God”, Rocky Tree Road in Somerset. Mrs. Whitaker was devoted to her family and children.

Mrs. Whitaker is survived by her husband, Marvin A. Whitaker, whom she married on May 14, 1959; three sons, Allan D. (and Brenda) Whitaker of Somerset, Kelvin A. (and Teresa) Whitaker of Somerset, and Brett R. Whitaker of Somerset; four grandchildren, Misty Danielle Whitaker, Deris Whitaker, Rebekah Whitaker, and Jessica Whitaker; three brothers, Thomas Dykes of Somerset, Roger (and Peggy) Dykes of Somerset, and Richard (and Debbie) Dykes of Somerset; and a sister, Darlene (and David) Cooper of Somerset.

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by a brother, Freddie “Sonny” Dykes; and a sister, Joyce Black.

Visitation for Mrs. Whitaker will be Monday, December 19^th at 5:00 pm at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home, 1046 West Highway 80, Somerset.

Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 20^th at 11:00 am at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Herman Hamilton and Bro. Roger Dykes, Sr. officiating. Interment will be in the Lakeside Memorial Gardens.
