Curtis
Dorvin Whitaker, age 88 of Somerset departed this life on
Saturday, February 6, 2010 at his residence.
He
was born on August 22, 1921 in Yaho, KY, the son of Andy
L. and Ola E. Adams Whitaker. Mr. Whitaker was a garage
mechanic for the Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis, IN,
a United States Army veteran of WWII, and a member of the
Clifty Grove Baptist Church. He loved to repair radios and
televisions, playing music, gardening, yard work, and
watching animals.
Mr.
Whitaker is survived by his wife, Gracie Mae Adkins
Whitaker, whom he married on December 20, 1952 in
Somerset; a daughter, Linda Dianne McCarthy (John) of
Somerset; three sisters, Thelma Whitaker of Somerset,
Phyllis Heilman of Ohio, and Sylvia Turner of Somerset;
six grandchildren, Andrew Whitaker, Arlena Whitaker, Stacy
McCarthy, Kim McCarthy, John McCarthy, and Chastity
McCarthy; six great grandchildren, Jennifer Whitaker,
Jessica Whitaker, Robert and Jerry Doty, and Andrew and
Jacob Whitaker; several nieces and nephews; and a
daughter-in-law, Rhonda Whitaker.
Preceding
him death were his parents, Andy and Ola Whitaker; a son,
Jerry Dorvin Whitaker; four brothers, Denver L. Whitaker,
Elvin Whitaker, Rothel Arthur, and Ferrel Arthur; and
three sisters, Lilly Whitaker, Wilma Perry, and Fern
Arthur.
Visitation
for Mr. Whitaker will be Tuesday, February 9th
at 5:00 pm at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home, 1046 West
Highway 80, Somerset.
Funeral
service will be Wednesday, February 10th at
11:00 am at the Clifty Grove Baptist Church with Bro.
Scotty Nix and Bro. Rick Lawson officiating. Burial will
be in the Whitaker Cemetery. The American Legion Post #38
Honor Guard will conduct full military honor for Mr.
Whitaker
The
