Maxie “Toogie” H.
McMillen, age 77 of Nancy, KY died peacefully in her sleep
at her residence on Friday, January 28, 201
1.
Toogie was born on
June 8, 1933 in McDowell, KY to the late Ira and Gladys
Jones Hamilton. Toogie graduated from High School at 15
years old, attended Morehead College and received her
bachelor’s degree in education from Wright State
University. She proudly taught 1st through 3rd
grade elementary students in the New Carlisle-Bethel
School District in Medway, OH until her retirement in
1981.
Toogie married Charles
C. McMillen on March 2, 1957. They were a loving, devoted
couple who enjoyed raising their three children, Patricia,
Barry, and Brad in the Medway area. Toogie and Charles
enjoyed spending time with family and friends both in Ohio
and near Lake Cumberland, KY, where the couple fished,
boated and enjoyed the countryside every chance they
could. They loved the Lake Cumberland area so much they
decided to build their retirement home there, where they
have enjoyed 28 wonderful years. Toogie served on the
community Steering Committee and worked diligently to
bring upgraded utility services into the area.
Her hobbies included
traveling, playing cards, reading, watching car races, and
cheering for UK Basketball. She especially looked forward
to the Hamilton family reunions in June every year.
Toogie is survived by
her husband, Charles; daughter, Patricia Mirrell (and
husband, Ron) of Shelbyville, KY; sons, Barry McMillen
(and fiancée, Heidi Black) of Springfield, OH and Bradley
McMillen of Medway, OH; four grandchildren, Monica (and
Todd) Gazuoda, James (and Lori) McElwain, Melanie (and
Ahsan) Ullah, and Jenna (and Jeff) Woelfer; six great
grandchildren, Michael, Bailey, Sarah, Nicky, Molly, and
Jamie Raegan; one brother, Birchel Hamilton (and wife,
Lena) of Medway, OH; one sister, Mazel Stumbo (and
husband, Collis) of Bowling Green, KY; a sister-in-law,
Peggy Hamilton of Medway, OH; seven nieces and nephews
whom she loved very much; and numerous friends and
neighbors.
Along with her
parents, she was preceded in death by her younger brother,
Harold Hamilton, formerly of Medway, OH; a brother,
Bernice, who died in infancy; and an infant great
granddaughter, Anna Sophie.
Visitation for Mrs.
McMillen will be Thursday, February 3rd at
10:00am at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home in
Somerset, KY with her funeral service to follow at 12
Noon. Bro. Patrick Patterson will officiate. Burial will
be in Lakeside Memorial Gardens in Somerset, KY.
