Mrs.
Wilma Phelps Vanhook, age 84, of the Campground community,
departed this life on Friday, June 6, 2008 at the Lake
Cumberland Regional Hospital.
She
was born on October 1, 1923 in the Bent community of
Pulaski County to the late Grover C. and Sarah Emily
Keeney Phelps. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist
faith. She enjoyed flower gardening, loved working jigsaw
puzzles during the winter months, and quilting.
Surviving
Mrs. Vanhook are four sons, Arlis (and Margaret) Vanhook
Jr. of Osseo, MI, Gerald (and Patsy) Vanhook of Science
Hill, KY, Francis (and Peggy) Vanhook of Somerset, and
Marlin (and Jeanetta) Vanhook of Somerset; a daughter,
Doris (and Mark) Stringer of Somerset; fifteen
grandchildren, Cammy Vanhook, Brandon Vanhook, Brian
Vanhook, Rachel Vanhook, Joshua Vanhook, Samantha
Stringer, Brandi Purvis Brooks, Jamie Purvis, Lisa Cook,
Kevin Prater, Jenny Vener, Chrystal Adams, Bobbie
Sullivan, and Angela Swallows; nineteen great
grandchildren; a sister, Mildred (and William C.) Slavey
of Somerset; and a brother, Edward (and Betty) Phelps of
Shelbyville, IN, and Tracy Whitham.
Preceding
her in death were her parents; husband, Arlis Vanhook,
whom she married on January 24, 1942 in Drum, KY; a
daughter, Joyce Ann Purvis; two sisters, Ethel Hargis and
Alta McGlone; and six brothers, Bob Phelps, Gene Phelps,
Fred Phelps, Ollie Phelps, Merrel Phelps, and Earl Phelps.
Visitation
for Mrs. Vanhook will be Sunday, June 8th from
3-6 pm at the Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.
Funeral
service will be Monday, June 9th at 1:00 pm at
the Memory Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with
Bro. Norman Harper and Bro. Daniel Harper officiating.
Burial will follow in the Pine Thickett Cemetery.
