Betty Marlene Phelps, age 77 of Shelbyville, IN formerly of Pulaski County, departed this life on Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at the Methodist Medical Center in Indianapolis, IN.

She was born on September 10, 1933 in Dabney, KY to the late Ova and Syreptia Mayfield Johnson. She was a 1952 graduate of Shopville High School, librarian and teacher aide for Pearson Elementary School in Shelbyville, IN and of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Phelps was involved in the American Legion Auxiliary, V.F.W. Auxiliary, and the Moose Lodge in Shelbyville, IN. She was a devoted mother and grandmother.

Mrs. Phelps is survived by her husband, Edward Wayne Phelps, whom she married June 26, 1954 in McCreary County, KY; two daughters, Judith Ann (and Brent) Bastin of Brownsburg, IN and Charla Jolene (and John) Ketzenberger of Indianapolis, IN; three grandchildren, John Aaron, Adam James, and Jane Ann Ketzenberger; a sister, Joyce (and Clemon) Hargis of Shopville, KY; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Darwin Johnson; and two sisters, Francis Emogene Johnson and Wilma White.

Visitation for Mrs. Phelps will be Saturday, March 12th at 11:00 am at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with her funeral service to follow at 1:00 pm. Bro. Dalous Sears will officiate. Burial will be in the Pine Thickett Cemetery. An additional memorial service will be held in Shelbyville, Indiana and will be announced at a later date.
