He was born on July 5, 1959 in Chicago, Illinois to Patricia Levan Day and the late Roy Hughes. Don formerly worked for many years in Chicago and Somerset as a mechanic and brake specialist before becoming a talented artist who took great joy in giving away his art to his friends, family and others whom he surprised with his generosity. Everyone who knew Don will miss his kind-heartedness, his sense of humor, and his strong desire to always be of service to others.

Don is survived by his mother and stepfather, Patricia (and Hubert) Day of Somerset, KY;  two sons, Mark (Amber) Sabin of Wisconsin and David Hughes of Keno, Kentucky and a stepson, John (Sunny) Bradford; two grandchildren, Autumn Sabin and John Sabin; two sisters, Sherry (and Grant) Hornston of Somerset, KY and Tina (and Billy) Bradford of Science Hill, KY; maternal grandmother, Mary Levan of Somerset, KY; and an uncle, Jerry (and Pat) Levan of Arizona.

Along with his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, David Hughes; maternal grandfather, James Levan; and paternal grandparents, Clarence and Tina Hughes.
