Bessie
Marita Roberts Pitman, age 84 of the Faubush community,
departed this life on Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at the
Somerwoods Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
She
was born on April 3, 1927 in Faubush, Kentucky to the late
Charlie and Vida Cundiff Roberts. Mrs. Pitman had
worked as a postal assistant for the United States Postal
Service and served as an election officer for over thirty
years. She was a great cook, loved quilting and sewing,
growing a flower garden and garden. Mrs. Pitman was
a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church and she loved her
church. She was also a loving mother,
grandmother and great grandmother.
Mrs.
Pitman is survived by five sons, Danny (and Sandy) Pitman
of Ferguson, KY, Charles (and Debbie) Pitman of Faubush,
KY, Michael (and Gloria) Pitman of Somerset, Bruce
(and Judy) Pitman of Nancy, KY, and David (and Star)
Pitman of Somerset; two daughters, Diane (and Dannie) Holt
of Indianapolis, IN and Cathy (and Billy) Coner of Nancy,
KY; sixteen grandchildren, Sherrye Lemmon, Malissa
Thacker, Dawn Correll, Gregory Holt, Bennie Holt, Michele
Alarcon, Julena Dugger, Jacob Pitman, Heather Coner,
Brandy Hewitt, Brandon Pitman, Tyson Pitman, Michael Scott
Pitman, Marita Lynn Gutierrez, Dustin Pitman and Lucretia
Pitman; thirty great grandchildren; and one great-great
grandchild, Jade Alexis Brown; her three brothers,
Vertrees Roberts, James “Jim” Roberts, and Teddy J.
Roberts all of Faubush, KY; and her three sisters, Lois
Roberts Hatfield, Betty Jo Roberts Garner, and Sue Roberts
Tarter all of Nancy, KY.
Along
with her parents, she was preceded in death by her
husband, Eugene Glen Pitman, whom she married on October
31, 1948 in Russell Springs, KY; a grandson, Jordon Lee
Pitman; a brother, Milburn Roberts; two sisters, Pauline
Roberts and one who died in infancy; and a sister-in-law,
Opal Roberts.
Visitation
for Mrs. Pitman will be Sunday, October 16th after 5:00 pm
at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home, 1046 West Highway 80,
Somerset, Kentucky.
Funeral
service will be held on Monday, October 17th at 1:00 pm at
the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Brother
Roy Allen and Brother Murrell Crockett officiating.
Burial will be in the Mill Springs National Cemetery in
Nancy, KY.
The
family request that expressions of sympathy be made to the
Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church Fund.
