November 29, 1954 - August 29, 2010

Joe Edd Lockard, age 55, of Bronston, KY, passed from death into eternal life with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 29, 2010 after a long hard fought illness.  He was born on November 29, 1954, the son of James M. and the late Carolyn Morrow Lockard of Bronston, KY.

Preceding him in death are his mother, Carolyn Morrow Lockard and his sister, Linda Jones.

He is survived by his father, James M. Lockard of Bronston, KY; his wife of 36 years, Sue Childers Lockard of Bronston, KY; a daughter, Suzanne (and Randy) Emerson of Somerset;  a son, Joshua M. (and Jennifer) Lockard of Science Hill, KY; three granddaughters that gave him so much love and joy, Hannah Emerson of Somerset,  Sierra Emerson of Somerset, and Shelby Lockard of Science Hill, KY; his siblings, Judy (and Carl) Howard of Blue John, KY, Wanda (and Bro. Walter) Walden of Bronston, KY, Rev. James (and Norma) Lockard of Bronston, KY, Roger (and Debbie) Lockard of Bronston, KY,  Carroll (and Charlie) David of Bronston, KY, and Teresa (and Michael) Sweet of Somerset; and many nephews and nieces.

Joe was a man of few words but he was a man who would give you from the heart anything that was in his power to give. He retired from Southern Belle Dairy after 27 years of service and established Lockard’s Pallets Inc. in Somerset, KY.  He was a member of Denham Street Baptist Church and he loved all the members and his church family.

Joe started fishing Bass tournaments as a young man and was very successful with 3 or 4 special friends but enjoyed and cherished his partner he had for the past 14 years, his son Josh.

Joe loved going to the Outer Banks twice a year and beach fishing or deep sea fishing with his daughter, Suzanne. He also enjoyed sitting on a balcony at Pigeon Forge and watching the river flow from the mountains.

Most of all, Joe loved the Lord and sitting on his back deck and waiting and watching his small world around him to awaken early in the morning. Watching his deer, squirrel and chipmunk he fed and built shelters for. He would always thank God for all the blessings he sent down to him and thanked Him for another day. Joe wanted everyone to forgive him if he failed to mention Jesus to them.

The family will receive visitors at Denham Street Baptist Church after 5:00 pm on Tuesday, August 31st.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 am at the Denham Street Baptist Church on Wednesday, September 1st with Bro. J.S. New and Bro. James Lockard officiating. Interment will be in the Bronston Cemetery.

The family expresses that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in his honor to Hope Lodge, 1500 College Way, Lexington, KY 40502, Hospice of Lake Cumberland, 100 Parkway Drive, Somerset, KY 42503, and/or Denham Street Baptist Church.
