Mr.
James Franklin Powers, age 82, of Somerset, passed away on
Saturday, August 23, 2008 at Lake Cumberland Regional
Hospital.
He
was born on September 11, 1925 in Bypro, KY to the late
Elbert and Cordelia Hall Powers Sr. He was a press
operator for 32 years at the Chrysler Corporation in
Warren, MI and deacon at the Pilgrim Rock Old Regular
Baptist Church in Waynesburg, KY. He was a Korean War Army
veteran, with the rank of Specialist Third Class.
Mr.
Powers is survived by his wife, Betty Slone Powers, whom
he married on June 10, 1950 in Pikeville, KY; a daughter,
Lawana Sue (and Barry) Craig of Bronston, KY; a sister,
Vienetia Powers Scott of Somerset; four grandchildren,
Lindsay Lee Phillips, Rebekah Sue Phillips, Emily Jo
Phillips, and Barry Allen Craig Jr.; three step
grandchildren, Amber Renee (and Paul) Stapp, Samantha Jo
Craig, and Rebecca Nicole Craig; and several nieces and
nephews.
Preceding
him in death were his parents; two brothers, Arlie Hall
and Elbert Powers Jr.; father & mother-in-law,
Roosevelt & Margaret Casebolt Slone; three
sisters-in-law, Lois Slone Powers, Subrina Slone Jones,
and Dovie Hall; two brothers-in-law, Posey Scott Jr. and
Berlin Jones; two special nephews, Clyde Scott and Ronald
Scott; and very special "adopted grandson",
Marine Sergeant Phillip A. Bocks.
Visitation
for Mr. Powers will be Tuesday, August 26th
after 5:00 pm at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home, 1046 West
Highway 80, Somerset, KY and then on Wednesday, August 27th
after 10:00 am at the Pilgrim Rock Old Regular Baptist
Church, Waynesburg, KY.
Funeral
service will be held Wednesday, August 27th at
11:00 am at the Pilgrim Rock Old Regular Baptist Church in
Waynesburg, KY with Bro. Carroll Addington officiating.
Burial will follow in the Lakeside Memorial Garden,
Somerset.
